Montreal's subway control centre and systems, STM Montreal subway's control centre centralized command systems modernization, Montreal Public Transit Authority (STM) The STM launched a widespread program to replace Montreal’s subway’s fixed equipment (an investment of 311 million dollars). This program included the replacement and modernization of all telecommunication and operation procedure control systems. An important aspect of the project was the modernization of all systems inherent to the control centre’s automation. The subway’s control centre is responsible for managing four subway lines operated by the STM. This control centre was built at the same time as the first lines, then renovated and expanded to meet growing needs. The last important renovation took place in 1998 when the computers used for traffic monitoring and fixed equipment supervision were replaced. Services provided
Unique aspects The subway’s Control Centre is a complex system, operated by 30 or so employees, 24 hours a day, ensuring the following functions:
The control centre includes a main control room, emergency response coordination room, and communications room, employee’s room and administrative offices for operational support. The centre has advanced communication systems (radiocommunication, telephony and data transmission) and integrates applications such as public address systems, remote monitoring, electronic display, intrusion detection and installation access control. |
